What is a President? A President is a corporate talking head. He does funny tricks for the public while his staff does all the work. The staff doesn’t work for the President. The staff works for the party and is selected by the party. Since it is the staff who really run the office of the president, the party makes certain that the staff will work for the interests of the corporate sponsors. As there are only two significant parties in the United States, it has been very easy for the corporations to dominate both parties. This is why Bill Clinton’s administration was a continuation of the Reagan-Bush administrations, and was the perfect set up for the current trained monkey.
Jimmy Carter was the last President to actually try to do the job. We all saw what happened to him. Carter’s own party ignored him. The Democrats left Jimmy Carter slowly twisting in the wind over the Iran Hostage Crisis. Of course the Democrats knew that the Republicans were dealing with Iran to make Carter look bad, but nobody stood up to defend their President. Then the Reagan Republicans took credit for all the hard work and hard decisions Carter made to repair the economy. After Reagan’s election, the Democrats showed the world they were not going to stand for any more human rights nonsense. They joined with the Republicans to send our jobs overseas and to assure corporate profits. Liberal became as bad a word amongst the Democrats as with the Republicans, and the nation watched 50 years of social progress go down the toilet.
Television and the media have made it more important to look like a President than to be a President. Giving the devil his due, Richard M. Nixon tried to be a President during the 1960 campaign. Nixon ran an old fashioned campaign based on the issues, while Jack Kennedy ran the first modern campaign based on appearances. Kennedy posed for the cameras. Kennedy wore make-up during the debates. Kennedy was young and pretty, while even in 1960, Nixon looked like a blood hound who just smelled a skunk. Kennedy won on appearances. In 1968 Nixon was washed up and fallen so far into alcoholism that he was hopeless after twelve noon.
Quite often it is neccessary to tell the public what they want to hear in order to get a candidate elected. After eight years of Reagan and four years of Papa-Doc Bush, America was burned out on deregulation. The voters were scared of NAFTA and wanted the government do something for them. Clinton came along and promised national health. That’s what the public wanted to hear and that’s what got Clinton elected. We are still waiting for our national health. Clinton set us up for our present financial crises instead.
After Clinton’s outright lies and open collusion with the Republicans, I cannot understand why anybody would believe anything any Democrat would tell them. Yet there are still people who make excuses for Clinton. They forget that the “prosperity” under the Clinton years was simply a stock market bubble that would have been illegal before the deregulation of the Eighties. They seem to forget that Alan Greenspan started under Reagan and continued through the Clinton years until Greenspan himself chose to retire under Baby-Doc Bush. They ignore the fact that Clinton turned homelessness into a national crisis by signing NAFTA into law and then cutting the social safety net. Clinton created his paper surplus budget surplus through his treasury department investing in valueless tech stocks.
There are customs about the Presidency that have to be followed. One such custom is that the incumbent Vice President gets to run for President at the end of the two terms. Al Gore, the last of the presidentially viable, pro-ecology Democrats ran for president, but the Republicans cheated to keep him out of the White House. Gore’s own party made no great effort to challenge the obvious chicanery. Having Gore in the White House would have been an embarrassment. It would have been like Carter. The president would have said one thing while the party was busy colluding with the oil, mining, and lumber companies. Gore was also pro-labor and depended on the auto industry for his support base. As we see today, the auto industry was another American industry due for outsourcing.
The parties no longer even compete for the Presidency. Both parties get together with their PR and marketing people to see who the voters are most likely to accept. When the public got tired of Republican rhetoric, Clinton got into the White House for eight years with no real changes in policy from the Republicans.
Obama is surrounding himself with Clinton’s criminal family. Obama has already come out in favor of illegal wiretapping, promised to continue and expand the faith based initiatives, and backed away from ending the Bush tax giveaways to the rich. If Robert “The Surge” Gates is selected, that will be a pretty good indication that we can expect a continuation of the last 28 years. If you, like me, find this totally unacceptable, it is time to act. We can start by getting on Obama’s website and letting the president elect know that we are not pleased. http://change.gov/ It might not make any difference but at least we will not be silent accomplices to our own abuse.
Obama is campaigning and promising us change, but is change anything more than a campaign promise? Obama has not provided a time line for withdrawing our troops from the Middle East. He has not promised the end of Homeland (in)Security. So what sort of change can we reasonably expect from a candidate who is not promising to restore the SEC or the FTC, even though the economy is tanking all around him? What can we expect from a candidate who came into Washington through the Chicago machine? Chicago is home to one of the oldest and crookedest political machines in the nation.
Barack Obama has proven this by his promise to expand Bush’s Faith-Based Initiatives. I suppose that the biggest change that we can expect is that the bribe money will be going to Obama’s supporters rather than to Bush’s supporters. Looking at things from a deeper level, if Bush’s supporters want to keep their fat bribes, they can switch their alliances to Obama. Maybe this is why The Washington Times has become a little critical of Baby-Doc Bush of late. The Times is fully owned by Sun Myung Moon’s Unification Church, and the Moonies are the biggest recipients of Bush’s Faith-Based Initiatives. Maybe they are hoping that the gravy train will continue under Obama.
What gives? Barack Obama has promised change, but all I’m seeing is another corporate candidate who is going to continue the same failed policies that America has been following since 1980. The United States illegally invaded two countries and the Democratic Speaker of the House “took impeachment off the table”. Obama still has not presented us with a withdrawal plan. The cost of health care has become impossible, and Obama is presenting a health care plan that penalizes the poor while assuring massive profits for the health insurance industry. Now with the economy tanking and thousands homeless, Obama is going to take our tax money and give it to the churches just like Bush has been doing. Oh yes, he is going to make some changes, but we all know they are going to be cosmetic changes. Obama is simply going to reward churches for supporting his policies without doing anything to relieve the suffering of the people who are depending on him.
Stop and think about it. What is the actual difference between Barack Obama and John McCain? Everybody and his brother keeps telling me that McCain is insane. If McCain becomes president, the war will never end. Would somebody please tell me when Obama committed to ending the war(s)? If McCain is elected he will use the atomic bomb. What makes you think that Obama will not use the atomic bomb? If McCain wins the economic situation will get worse. What makes you think that Obama will do anything differently than McCain? Maybe if we are lucky, Obama will throw us a few crumbs. Maybe he will champion same sex marriages and make that a condition to qualify for the faith-based money giveaways. Maybe he will decriminalize marijuana. While both of these are important issues, there are other issues that have to be addressed. Obama is not addressing them any more than McCain is.
That is why I am voting for Nader this election. I do not like Nader and I am not sure in my mind that he is any more competent to be president than Bush. Nader has presented a time line for withdrawal from Iraq and Afghanistan. Nader supports a single payer health care system which is not welfare for the health agencies. Nader also supports the elimination of Homeland (in)Security and Faith-Based initiatives. He is also in favor of same sex unions and legalization. Since Nader is supporting what I believe in, I am voting for him. If McCain wins because I voted for Nader, too bad. I don’t think that the Democrats deserve to win. I don’t think we will be any worse off with McCain than we would be with Obama. The only hope that Obama represents is the hope that we project on him.
On November 15, our lame turkey president is hosting a meeting of world leaders. Fear not, oh libertarians, your Shrubby champion will urge his fellow despots to support “Democratic Capitalism”. What the hell is “Democratic Capitalism”? Is that anything like National Socialism? Baby-Doc Bush states that it’s about free markets, free enterprise, and free trade. Note that the operative word here is free, as in Scot free; as in “you watch out for the cops while we mug the housing market”. The U.S government doesn’t even make a pretense to honesty anymore. America watched as our congress divided up a 750 billion dollar swag amongst the very crooks who ripped us off. Frankly, I don’t understand why they even bother outlawing street mugging anymore. Maybe it’s because Wall St. can’t stand the competition?
According to the Yahoo! article, the location of the meeting has not yet been announced. People speculate that it’s to foil protesters. I think it’s so there are no witnesses. This is the second time in 80 years that the U.S has caused a worldwide economic meltdown. I think that the location is a secret because the rest of the world’s leaders don’t want any witnesses. Rumor has it that Gordon Brown’s valet caught the Prime Minister packing a cosh into his briefcase. There are also whispers about secret meetings between Brown and Kevin Rudd at a Malaysian pub frequented by mercenaries. There are speculations that the PM of Japan was spotted at secret meetings with the Yakuza. Then again, this may all be baseless rumors and the world leaders are simply going to rat pack poor Dubya.
Our fearless leader’s spokesrat said that it was unlikely that they would come to an accord on the first meeting. Well, duh! Baby-Doc Bush only has two months left before his exit plan. Bush’s exit plan is to pack his bags and leave the mess for the next guy to deal with. The only question is whether he heads for South America like Bohrmann, or simply exiles himself in Florida like O.J. So really, what can we expect Dubya to do except do a holding action while Wall St. CEOs stuff money in duffel bags and high tail it West Palm Beach? You can’t send out of state subpoenas into Florida.
Seriously, what possible use can come out of a meeting with Baby-Doc Bush? The man is totally Wall St. He doesn’t hear anything he doesn’t want to hear. He ignores criticism and doesn’t care what his own constituents want. What makes the rest of the world think that he’s going to do anything positive about the situation he put the world into? It’s not as if Bush was actually in charge. He is the front man for the same team that was in office when Nixon was president. Nixon was too drunk most of the time to be effective. Reagan was senile. Bush is just simply too stupid to really understand what is going on. So unless the leaders of the world plan on rat packing George and kicking him to death, I cannot imagine what they hope to accomplish.
The real danger of this meeting is not that Bush will take it over. At this stage of the game, America has ceased to be a player in the world economy. The only thing we produce is oil, and that is a rapidly disappearing commodity. We do not grow our own crops any more. The lion’s share of our production was sent overseas. It looks like our leaders have screwed the pooch by outsourcing America to death. The biggest danger we face is being set aside and ignored. The rest of the world can fix their own economies and simply let the U.S stew in its own juices.
I can just imagine the libertarians are going to love that! . Oh, those rocket scientists would dance and sing and hug each other while toasting the return of small capitalism. Then they would realize that the price of small capitalism is a short and brutish life without the amenities they think are theirs by right. There won’t be time to post on the Internet when they have to go out and grow their own damned beans. There has never been a day when America was not a part of the world economy. Watch what happens to our currency once we are set adrift.
I hope the next president will have the brains god gave a rock. With good luck the SEC and the FTC will be restored. Maybe this free enterprise garbage will be reinterpreted. Free enterprise should not mean being able to steal anything not nailed down. Otherwise we can look forward to a very grim future.
Alas, Paris Camp Followers, another blow against democracy has been struck. The forces of oppression will not let our heroine run for office. Not only did that bean counter at the election board not accept my petition to put Paris on the ballot, but he had the police escort me out of building. Can you imagine the nerve of it? The worst of it is that I had almost 50 signatures. (I do confess that I’m not quite sure that the weird old man on the park bench in the playground was really a registered voter.) Well I don’t know about the rest of you true believers, but I’m not taking this lying down.
We are just going to have to get around that constitutional technicality by finding a new candidate. The problem is who can we draft who isn’t so far over the hill that we might as well put in a write-in vote for Hillary Clinton? We’re going to need somebody over 35, but is still hot enough for a good campaign poster. Campaign experience would be a plus but not necessary as the right candidate would be hot enough not to really need to campaign. Well one candidate comes immediately to mind. She has been campaigning for Al Gore for a number of years. That will get us a lot of Gore supporters as well as the rest of the eco-freaks who have been crying over the drowning polar bears. Plus, she operates a totally exploitative corporation, which is really a major plus for an American politician. Have you guessed our new candidate yet, oh true believers? Who else could it be but America’s favorite MILF, Madonna!
True, Madonna’s name has been linked with a little bit of scandal. There are some poop-heads who have accused her of sleeping her way to stardom. Well let’s get real. Sleeping your way to the top is a plus for a politician. She’ll fit right in amongst the Washington crowd. She has corporate connections so she might actually be able to do presidential stuff when she’s not doing photo shots, and she is undoubtedly still hot!
That leaves the question of Madonna’s running mate. Well there is no question in my mind. Britney Spears is the only possible candidate. I mean with a ticket like this:
the polls might just get crushed in the avalanche. Forget about blue and red states. All of America will turn a steaming pink. So sorry, Paris, but as you know, politics make strange bedfellows and one must move with the expediency of the moment. Besides, with a face lift and a tummy-tuck, you’ll be ready to run in 2016. In the meantime, vote for Ciccone and Spears in 2008. The only change that matters in Washington.
Fellow Camp Followers, are you as outraged as I am? Some bean counter at the election board is trying to tell me that Paris Hilton cannot run for president because Paris is too young? Can you believe that? Can you believe the outright audacity of it? This is blatant age discrimination against us dirty old men. How dare they tell mature white male voters that we cannot vote for the candidate of our choice. What is this, Soviet Russia where the state tells us who to vote for?
To make things worse, you will never guess what excuse they used to block Paris’s candidacy? They had the nerve to tell me that Paris cannot run because of the Constitution! Who cares about the Constitution? It’s just a piece of paper, people. I mean, who pays attention to it anymore? Who the hell cares that the Constitution says that you have to be 35 in order to be president? By the time Paris is 35, she won’t be worth voting for. We want Paris now!
The worst of it is the hypocrisy. Right now we have a president in the White House who was not elected through Constitutional means. Nobody kicked Bush out into the gutters of Pennsylvania Avenue just because he cheated in the election. Nobody stops Bush when he gives billions of dollars to Sun Young Moon through his faith based initiatives. Nobody has stopped the government from denying undocumented workers their legal rights under the 14th amendment. Who cares about the prisoners being illegally held in Gitmo, the lies behind the Afghanistan and Iraq wars, or illegal wiretapping? Nobody seems to care about any of that, and some clerk has the nerve to tell me that my candidate cannot run for the presidency? The nerve of some people.
So the bean counters and the nit-pickers are going to waste more tax-payer’s money by making us do this the hard way. The “public servant” I spoke to said that we would have to have a Constitutional amendment in order to be able to vote for Paris. I say why bother amending something that everybody only pays selective attention to? Let’s just ignore the Constitution and vote for Paris anyway. After all, if the current POTUS can just ignore the constitution any time he wants, why the hell can’t we?
So vote for Paris Hilton, the Only Change that Matters in Washington.
